This story was hilarious on many levels, but as a non- WoW player myself, the most humorous thing about the episode was the fact that this story isn't too far off from truth - sorry, I have seen people sucked into the game so far that they have almost forgotten how to act in the real world.Īll in all, this episode may be one of the funniest ever produced. But in the end the kids are all to fat and too lazy to enjoy anything beyond continuing to play the game. Eventually the boys dethrone the naked dancing warrior by striking him down with the 'Sword of a Thousand Truths' (a hidden weapon created by a Blizzard developer), bringing peace to the world… of Warcraft. The only problem is that this jerk is killing everybody, so much so that people are quitting playing - which spells the end of the world… of Warcraft.
After a call to arms by Cartman, the boys decide to train hard (by killing boars in a forest for weeks on end) in order to gain the experience necessary to beat this virtual fiend. While playing they find a character that is so powerful that he is able to break the rules of the game, and kill anybody that stands in his way. The main story of the episode follows South Park's kids as they play through their new favorite game: World of Warcraft. Kenny+is+sucked+into+the+World+of+Warcraft. Will MMORPG fans get angry at this less than flattering depiction? Yeah, but we would be disappointed in South Park if they didn't cross the line. Across the episode the boys become acne-ridden and morbidly obese in their quest to take out the best player in Azeroth. We're not saying that playing the game is bad, but just as much as the episode shows the fun and popularity of the game it also shows the addictive nature of this virtual adventure. Knowing their audience and material completely, "Make Love, Not Warcraft" gets to the bottom of what it takes to be a great MMORPG player: having no life.
This seamless combination plays out much like the anime parody from the episode "Good Times With Weapons," and that is a good thing.
